Summer international travel? See when popular destinations may be reopening their borders

 

If we only have a crystal ball to tell us where the future of travel is headed this Summer…

Some believe we will see wanderlusters, start heading out this summer. Others predict that it will take much longer before travelers feel confident to explore abroad again.

However, the one thing most sources appear to agree on is a slow but, steady return to travel that will first be prioritized around journeys heaps closer to home.

If you have close contact with someone with COVID during your trip or if you travel to what is considered a coronavirus hot spot, you may be asked to stay home for up to 14 days after travel.

Greece

When will it reopen its borders? 

June 15th for European nations, July 1st International.

Which countries will be allowed? Still TBA

Spain

When will it reopen its borders? 

Government officials state starting July.

It’s been announced that foreign travellers can now start planning their Summer holidays in Spain.

Croatia

When will it reopen its borders?

May 29, Croatia will open its borders for Slovak, Czech, Hungarian and Austrian citizens.

“Escape to the blue” Croatia opening up tourism for summer vacations. First to neighbouring European holidaymakers and possibly other foreigners after. Internet threads are branding it “the hottest Corona-free Summer destination!”

Iceland

When will it reopen its borders?

June 15, all passengers will either take a COVID-19 test or choose quarantine for two weeks.

Offered to travellers landing in the country through Keflavik International Airport. Travellers must also download the official tracing app that is being used in the country 

If you can provide a medical document with a negative coronavirus result then they needn’t take the test upon arrival.

Bahamas

When will it reopen its borders? 

Potentially by July, Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said during a national hearing.

"We are looking at a possible date for commercial travel on or before July 1 of this year, these dates may change depending on the circumstance. the date is not final”

Puerto Rico

When will it reopen its borders?

Tourists are already welcome back in the U.S. territory.

All incoming commercial flights have been diverted to San Juan, where incoming guests must undergo a health screening on arrival, including an assessment and temperature check.

However, at this time it’s mandatory self-quarantine for 14 days regardless of whether they are symptomatic.

U.S Virgin Islands

When will it reopen its borders? 

Hopefully, by June 1, according to press conference by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.

He said he's been working on a rollout plan with the departments of tourism and health and other groups

Belize

When will it reopen its borders? Borders remain closed to all foreigners until June 30, but it could extend longer.

Some businesses have begun to reopen, like restaurants (delivery and take-out only), banks and pharmacies. But they will only be permitted to operate during certain hours and under strict new health guidelines.

Costa Rica

When will it reopen its borders?

Costa Rica began easing measures on May 1, allowing cinemas, hair salons, gyms and athletic centers to reopen under reduced hours and strict sanitary guidelines.

A ban on foreigners is set to expire on June 15, but who knows, it could be extended as a precaution.

Cambodia

When will it reopen its borders?

On May 20, Cambodia will reopen its borders to tourists from 6 countries including the United States. People from America, France, Iran, Italy, Germany, and Spain are allowed to enter Cambodia. However, all visitors need a test proving they are COVID-19 free within three days of their arrival in Cambodia. They will also need to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Tourists will also need to prove they have $50,000 worth of health insurance coverage. Who knows if that plans needs to include COVID?

All passengers, both Cambodian and foreign, traveling to Cambodia, will be put in a waiting centers for the COVID-19 tests and that they are waiting for results from the lab. … Hmm wonder what that wait looks like..?
